Women's Hockey Clinches ECAC West Regular Season Title in 5-1 Win at Neumann

Chelsea VanGlahn tallied two goals in the Cardinals' 5-1 win at Neumann Saturday night.

ASTON, Pa. – After trailing 1-0 at the end of the first period, the top-ranked Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team regrouped and scored three in the second en route to a 5-1 win at Neumann University Saturday evening. With the win, the Cardinals locked up the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West Regular Season Title and the top seed for the league playoffs.
 
The Knights (9-14-1, 6-9-0 ECAC West) opened the scoring on Ang Gilmour’s goal that went over the shoulder of Sydney Aveson at 15:03 of the first period, putting the Cardinals (22-0-2, 14-0-1 ECAC West) in a 1-0 hole after the first 20 minutes.
 
Plattsburgh wasted no time in the second period, scoring the equalizer with just 42 seconds off the clock. Allison Era tallied a power-play goal from Jenny Kistner and Teal Gove to make it 1-1. Eight minutes later, the Cardinals took the lead on Emma Rutherford’s 10th of the year and never looked back.
 
Chelsea VanGlahn added a power-play goal at 10:27 of the second from Alyssa Parke to give Plattsburgh State a two-goal cushion after two periods.
 
Gove scored her 20th of the year on the power-play at 5:25 of the third to put the Cardinals up 4-1 before VanGlahn’s second of the night at 12:22.
 
The Cardinals finished the night with a 34-19 edge in shots on goal. Plattsburgh went 3-for-7 on the power play while Neumann was unable to capitalize on its chances, going 0-for-4.
 
Aveson improved to 18-0-2 with 18 saves for Plattsburgh State. Neumann’s Shannon Donnelly recorded 29 stops in the loss.
 
The undefeated Cardinals wrap up the regular season tomorrow afternoon with a conference matchup at Neumann set for 2 p.m.
