Women's Hockey Cruises to 8-0 Win at Potsdam in ECAC West Opener

Allison Era recorded a hat trick and added an assist in Plattsburgh State's 8-0 win at Potsdam.

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Shannon Stewart scored four goals as the top-ranked Plattsburgh State women's hockey team rolled to an 8-0 victory over Potsdam in an Eastern Collage Athletic Conference (ECAC) West matchup Tuesday night at Maxcy Ice Arena.
 
With the win, Plattsburgh State improves to 3-0-0 on the year and 1-0-0 in the ECAC West. Potsdam drops to 1-1-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league play.
 
Stewart scored the game-winning goal at the 11:07 mark of the first from Emma Rutherford and the Cardinals never looked back. Era scored her first of the evening on the power play at 13:48 from Bridget Balisy, giving Plattsburgh State a two-goal lead to take to the locker room.
 
With just 4:44 gone in the second period, Stewart cashed in a power-play opportunity to make it 3-0 before striking again less than two minutes later to complete the hat trick and give the Cardinals a 4-0 advantage.
 
It was Era's turn to tally the hat trick at the start of the third period as the senior defenseman recorded the next two Plattsburgh State goals. Era finished the evening with three goals and an assist.
 
Ali Vakos scored her first of the year at 16:29 from Jordan Caldwell before Stewart found the back of the net for the fourth time of the night at 19:20 to round out the scoring.
 
Rutherford, Balisy, Jordan Lipson and Julia Duquette each contributed two assists in the win.
 
The Cardinals finished the night with a 57-11 edge in shots on goal. Plattsburgh State went 2-for-7 on the power play while Potsdam went 0-for-4.
 
Sydney Aveson earned her third-straight shutout with 11 saves. Potsdam's Alexane Rodrigue stopped 49 shots in the loss.
 
Plattsburgh State makes its home debut Saturday at 3 p.m. in a non-conference game against Castleton at the Stafford Ice Arena. Following Saturday's game, the Cardinals remain home for the next four with two-game sets against Buffalo State and Neumann.
