Baseball Opens Oswego Series with Doubleheader Split

Marc Plante earned the win in game one for Plattsbugh to improve to 2-1 on the year.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Chris Pescetti led the Cardinal offense in game one as the Plattsburgh State baseball team defeated Oswego State, 7-3. Game two was a different story as the offense was unable to come alive in a 3-0 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) loss to the Lakers.
 
Pescetti went 2-for-4 and drove in five runs in the first game for Plattsburgh (17-15, 8-9 SUNYAC). Damien Tyler had three hits and two runs scored while Mike Varques went 3-for-5. Kris Cauchon added a pair of hits to help the Cardinals who finished with 14 in the game.
 
Marc Plante improved to 2-1 after allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out five in 6 2/3 innings for Plattsburgh. Brian Burns went the rest of the way, giving up a run and three hits.
 
Jon Stevens suffered the loss for Oswego (15-18, 6-8 SUNYAC). Plattsburgh tagged Stevens for five runs and 11 hits in 7 1/3 innings.
 
The Cardinals were held to five hits in game two as Oswego’s Thor Miller earned the complete-game shutout.
 
Bobby Piser took the loss after surrendering three runs on seven hits. Piser walked one and stuck out two. Steven Corea tossed a scoreless 1 1/3 innings to round out the day.
 
Plattsburgh will conclude the SUNYAC series tomorrow at Oswego with a nine-inning game scheduled for 3 p.m.
