MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Middlebury’s Scarlett Kirk scored a pair of first half goals to lead the Panthers to a 2-0 non-conference win over the Plattsburgh State women’s soccer team on Dragone Field Wednesday. The Cardinals fall to 2-2-2 on the season.
Kirk struck just 7:25 into the game, giving the Panthers an early 1-0 advantage. She broke in on the left side in open space, before firing a shot to the far post from a tough angle. She netted her fifth of the season in the 37th minute, converting a feed from Amy Schlueter from 15 yards out.
The Cardinals’ best chance to score came with 23 minutes left to play, as Jocelyn Remmert made a nice save on Ashley McKenelley as she was scrambling to get back into position.
Plattsburgh took 10 shots, while the Panthers finished the day with 15. Monica D’Ippolito made one save in the first half for Plattsburgh. Danielle Schmitt took over goalkeeping duties in the second half, making three saves. Remmert recorded six stops for Middlebury.
The Cardinals, who are in the midst of a five-game stretch on the road, will begin conference play Saturday at Potsdam. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
