Cardinals and Saints Battle to 2-2 Tie in Women's Soccer

Kristie Pageau tallied her third goal of the year in Plattsburgh's 2-2 tie against St. Lawrence
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team took a two-goal lead into the half, but saw it disappear on back-to-back goals by Stephanie Sayward as the St. Lawrence Saints rallied for a 2-2 tie in non-conference action at the Field House Soccer Complex.

Kristie Pageau put the Cardinals on the board at the 19:05 mark with her third goal of the year from Lindsey Keyser.

With 2:43 left in the first half, Brittany Meade stretched the Cardinal lead to 2-0 on her first of the season from freshman Jillian Tardelli.

The Saints fought back in the second half as Stephanie Sayward scored twice, once at 53:34 and again ten minutes later, tying the game at 2-2.

Despite offensive opportunities for the Cardinals in the second overtime period, neither team was able to find the back of the net.

Plattsburgh outshot St. Lawrence by the slightest of margins, 13-12, but the Cardinals held a 3-0 edge in the final overtime.

Saints goalie Abby van Geldern made three stops and Danielle Schmitt recorded five saves for the Cardinals.

Plattsburgh's record stands at 2-0-2 for the year.  St. Lawrence moves to 1-2-1.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 13 against Clarkson University.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Field House Soccer Complex.
