PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – With the threat of inclement weather looming for Saturday, the Plattsburgh State Cardinals and Oswego State Lakers played all their entire three-game series Friday, with the Cardinals winning all three games.
Plattsburgh 7, Oswego 6
Despite trailing 7-2 at one point, Oswego staged a comeback in game one, but the Cardinals were able to hang on for a 7-6 win. Paul Handy threw eight innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits for his third win of the year. Matt Seymour came on in the ninth to earn his second save of the season.
Kris Cauchon went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in. Pat Shaughnessy, Brandon Cross and Crockett Pack each added a run for the Cardinals in game one.
Mike Stark went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Matt Miller also added two RBIs. Marc Peterson suffered his third loss, allowing six runs – three of which were earned, over six innings.
Costly errors plagued the Lakers all afternoon. Oswego (13-17, 1-14 SUNYAC) committed six errors in game one and a total of 12 over the course of the three games played.
Plattsburgh 14, Oswego 5 (7 inn.)
The Plattsburgh offense ignited for 14 runs in game two – 12 of which were scored in the first inning.
Anthony Presto went 3-for-3 and Greg Larnerd drove home three runs for Plattsburgh. Pack, Danny Roeser and Donny Coolidge each picked up two hits apiece.
The Cardinals rapped a total 14 hits. Marc Plante earned his first win of the season after allowing two runs in the first four innings. Matt O’Leary and Bart Venza each contributed an inning of scoreless relief. Mike Doughtie allowed three runs on three hits in the seventh inning.
Plattsburgh 7, Oswego 0
Tyler Greene was outstanding for the Cardinals in the third game of the afternoon. Greene tossed a complete game three-hit shutout, issuing two walks and striking out five to improve to 3-3 on the year.
Cauchon went 4-for-5 with two RBI in the final game. Coolidge also drove home two runs, going 2-for-4. Shaughnessy and Damien Tyler also plated runs for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals (15-17, 8-8 SUNYAC) return to action on Wednesday, April 27 for a non-conference contest against Lyndon State. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Chip Cummings Field.
