BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State baseball team took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning before Brockport rallied for five runs to hand the Cardinals a 6-2 loss in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action.
The Cardinals scored one run in the first inning and one in the third. Pat Shaughnessy drove in both Plattsburgh runs, going 1-for-3 with a double on the day.
Anthony Presto, Danny Roeser and Brandon Cross each had hits for the Cardinals, who had a total of four off Brockport starter Kyle Smith.
Smith threw a complete game for the Golden Eagles, allowing two runs and striking out eight Plattsburgh batters.
Dan Tracy took the mound for the Cardinals, giving up five runs on seven hits over 7 1/3 innings. Brian Burns allowed one run in 2/3 of an inning.
Offensively for Brockport, six different players drove home runs as the Golden Eagles improved to 18-8 overall and 7-5 in the SUNYAC.
The Cardinals drop to 10-16 on the year and 6-6 in conference play.
The two teams were originally slated to play a doubleheader today, but were only able to get in one game due to inclement weather. A doubleheader will now be played tomorrow with game one set for 1 p.m.
