Baseball Drops Season Opener against Old Westbury, 4-0

Boxscore and Play-by-Play

YAPHANK, N.Y.
– Tyler Greene gave the Cardinals 4.2 innings of scoreless relief, but the Plattsburgh State baseball team could not rally, dropping its season opener to Old Westbury, 4-0, at Baseball Heaven.

Plattsburgh pitcher Dan Tracy allowed four runs, eight hits and two walks over 3.1 innings of work. Corey Murphy picked up the win for the Panthers, tossing eight innings and surrendering five hits.

Old Westbury had 11 hits on the afternoon.  Anthony Orsano was 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI for the Panthers and Chris DeGennaro went 2-for-4.

Plattsburgh’s Damien Tyler picked up the lone extra-base hit for the Cardinals – a double in the third.  Anthony Presto was 2-for-4, while Donny Coolidge and Danny Roeser each added singles to round out Plattsburgh’s offensive efforts.

“We had a couple of opportunities today, but we just couldn’t get the key hit,” added Plattsburgh State Head Coach Kris Doorey.

The Cardinals return to the field tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. to take on Southern Maine at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, N.Y.
