Game one boxscore and play-by-play
Game two boxscore and play-by-play

FORT MYERS, Fla.
– The Plattsburgh State baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Bethel University at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.  Plattsburgh lost game one, 7-6, and game two, 14-4.  The Cardinals slip to 4-6, while the Royals improve to 6-5 with the sweep.

In game one, Plattsburgh rallied twice to tie the game, but was unable to top the Royals.  The Cardinals got on the board early when Pat Shaughnessy drove home Donny Coolidge with a single through the left side in the top of the first inning.

Bethel responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning and added two in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

The Cardinals put up two runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game.  Kris Cauchon doubled down the left field line to bring Danny Roeser home.  Cauchon later came home on a Jon Handy single up the middle.

Plattsburgh rallied again in the top of the sixth, scoring three more runs.  Damien Tyler scored on a wild pitch, while Casey Brighton and Roeser each drove home a run.

The Royals scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly from David Freed.

Paul Handy did not figure in the decision, tossing four innings and giving up six hits and five runs.  He issued one walk and recorded one strikeout.

Steven Corea suffered the loss for the Cardinals, throwing the final inning and surrendering one run on one hit.

In game two, Plattsburgh sent three pitchers to the mound in the fifth inning but could not stop the bleeding as Bethel plated 12 runs.

Mike Doughtie took the loss, giving up two runs on two hits in two innings of work.  Tyler Greene went 2.1 innings and gave six runs – five earned, before handing the ball to Dan Tracy in the fifth inning.

Tracy surrendered four runs on four hits without recording an out.  The Cardinals gave up two more unearned runs before Bart Venza finally recorded the final two outs of the inning.

Danny Roeser went 1-for-1 with a walk and two RBI for the Cardinals.  Kris Cauchon went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Erik Anderson led the Bethel offense, going 2-for-4 and driving home four runs.  Left fielder Travis Piepho went 3-for-5 with two RBI.

David Freed earned his first win for Bethel allowing three earned runs, six hits, issuing five walks and striking out three in six innings of work.

The Cardinals close out their Florida trip tomorrow with a doubleheader against Western Connecticut State slated to begin at 9 a.m.
