FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Plattsburgh State baseball team’s Florida trip got off to a rough start, suffering an 8-0 shutout at the hands of the University of Dubuque at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
Anthony Presto, Donny Coolidge, Jon Handy and Jeremy Peet had the Cardinals only hits – each singles for Plattsburgh.
Mark Hennessy gave the Spartans (3-0) seven scoreless innings before handing the ball to Nick Baldocchi for the final two innings to complete the shutout. Hennessy gave up two hits, four walks and struck out five.
Tyler Green suffered the loss for Cardinals, surrendering 11 hits and six runs, one of which was earned, in 5.2 innings of work. Brian Burns pitched 2.1 innings of relief, giving up four hits and two earned runs.
The Cardinals (1-3) struggled in the field, committing five errors.
Plattsburgh faces Millikin University for a doubleheader on Monday, beginning at noon.
