Cardinals Roll Past Potsdam, 6-1

PLATTSBURGH. N.Y.
– Brittany Meade scored two goals for the Cardinals, including the game-winner, to lead Plattsburgh to a 6-1 victory over the Potsdam Bears in an Eastern College Athletic Conference West game.  The Cardinals move to 15-2-3 overall and 11-1-2 in conference play.  Potsdam drops to 8-12-1 on the year.

Megan DiJulio gave Plattsburgh the early lead on her seventh of the year from Helen Giroux and Kara Buehler at the 7:31 mark of the first period.  Just over a minute later, Meade took a pass from Alison Era and carried it in alone to make it 2-0.  Kylie Klassen gave the Cardinals a three-goal lead when she buried a puck on the right side off a rebound from Kate Fairfield.

With 54 seconds left in the first period, Potsdam got on the board with a power-play goal from Jessica Silveira.  Emma Smetaniuk and Brandi Atwell picked up assists on the goal.

Justine Fisher, Meade and Buehler all added goals in the Cardinals’ third straight win.  In addition to Meade and Buehler, Monica Korzon tallied multiple points, adding two assists.

Plattsburgh dominated Potsdam with a 50-19 shot advantage.  Sydney Aveson picked up her fifth win between the pipes for Plattsburgh, making 18 stops.  Potsdam goaltender Dawn Salvarinas recorded 44 saves in the loss.

The Cardinals hit the road next Wednesday to face Middlebury at 7 p.m.
