PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – After receiving quite the scare on Friday night, the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team rebounded with a solid performance Saturday afternoon to skate to a 4-0 shutout of Neumann in an ECAC Women’s West Division game at the Stafford Ice Arena.
The Cardinals (2-0-1, 2-0-1 ECAC West) tallied three goals in the first period and one in the second to picked up their second win of the season.
Teal Gove sparked the offense for the second straight day, scoring Plattsburgh’s first goal with just 3:12 gone in the opening period.
Shannon Stewart made it 2-0 with her first collegiate goal at 8:51. Neumann (0-1-1, 0-1-1 ECAC West) goaltender Shannon Donnelly made the initial save on Ashton Hogan’s shot, but Stewart was able to get a stick on the rebound and put the puck in the back of the net.
Amber Welch gave the Cardinals a three-goal lead at 12:08 of the first on a nice wraparound goal. Gove, who finished the weekend with five points, was credited with an assist on the goal.
Sophomore Chelsea VanGlahn wrapped up the scoring with a power-play goal at 10:03 of the second period from Jordan Caldwell and Erika Shaubel.
Donnelly allowed four goals on 45 shots in her first loss of the season. Plattsburgh goalie Sydney Aveson improved to 2-0-0, recording nine saves in her second shutout of the year.
