PLATTSBURGH, N.Y – The Plattsburgh State women’s soccer team played to a scoreless tie against Oneonta State in a key State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup Saturday afternoon at the Field House Soccer Complex.
The Cardinals move to 5-3-3 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play. The Red Dragons finish the day at 5-5-1, 4-1-1 in the SUNYAC.
Both teams generated offensive pressure throughout the afternoon, but neither team could find the back of the net in the evenly-matched affair.
Plattsburgh took 11 corner kicks, while Oneonta took seven. The Cardinals also held the edge in shots, 20-15. Lindsey Keyser and Kristie Pageau gave Plattsburgh great efforts up front. Keyser fired six shots and Pageau took five for the Cardinals. Karly DeSimone had six shots for Oneonta followed by Kayla Brantmeyer with four.
Plattsburgh goalkeeper Alina Greiser got her first start of the year, recording four saves in the shutout. Oneonta keeper Amy Lusby also made four stops.
Oneonta won the penalty kick shootout, 4-3, which is used as the first tiebreaker between teams to determine seedings for the SUNYAC tournament.
Plattsburgh continues conference play next weekend on the road at Fredonia and Buffalo State. Game times are Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 3:30 p.m., respectively.
