PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Leigh Metcalf’s third goal of the year lifted the Plattsburgh State women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over New Paltz in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Friday afternoon at the Field House Soccer Complex.
After a scoreless first half, Metcalf’s shot sailed over Stephanie Vega’s head to find the back of the net in the 55
th minute of play. Emily LaLone was credited with an assist on the goal.
One of the Hawks’ (8-4-1, 3-2-0 SUNYAC) best scoring opportunities came in the 77
th minute as Beth Bowling fired a shot from deep in the box, but Plattsburgh keeper Alina Greiser made a diving stop to preserve the one-goal lead.
Danielle Schmitt started the game in the Plattsburgh net, making one save in the first half. Greiser took over for the last 45 minutes, recording two saves and earning her first win of the season. Vega made six stops for the Hawks in the loss.
The Cardinals return to action tomorrow against defending SUNYAC champion, Oneonta State. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at the Field House Soccer Complex.
