SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s soccer team kicked off the 2010 season on a positive note with a 2-0 victory against Skidmore at the Skidmore Invitational. The Cardinals scored two goals in the first period of play to top the Thoroughbreds.
The win takes the team to 1-0 on the year. Meanwhile, Skidmore drops to 0-1. Lindsey Keyser put the Cardinals on the board at 8:20 with a penalty kick goal. Sophomore Kristie Pageau closed out the scoring in the 20th minute on an unassisted breakaway.
Plattsburgh recorded nine shots to Skidmore’s 11. Alina Greiser picked up her first shut out of the season with four saves. Meghan Sleezer and Gab Lawrence split time in net for Skidmore, combining for six saves.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, September 4 against Scranton in the final game of the Skidmore Invitational. The game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
