CANTON, N.Y. - The nationally ranked Plattsburgh State baseball squad (No. 23 D3Baseball/NCBWA, No. 18 ABCA) scored eight times in the middle-three innings en route to an 11-4 victory Tuesday at Saint Lawrence in non-conference action at Tom Fay Field, extending the Cardinals' school-record win streak to 18 games. Plattsburgh is now 18-1 on the year while the Saints dip to 9-8.
Plattsburgh plated four runs in the top of the fourth inning and never looked back. Danny Roeser highlighted the frame by rapping a one-out double to drive in two runs.
Leading 4-2 going into the fifth, the Cardinals tacked on four more runs for a commanding 8-2 bulge. Casey Brighton hit a RBI-double to cap the scoring.
Freshman Mark Plante pitched five innings for his second collegiate victory, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out three. Tyler Greene pitched four innings of three-hit relief to chock up his first save of the season for Plattsburgh, which got a three-hit performance from second baseman Pat Shaughnessy. Tory Bouyea, Donny Coolidge and Roeser had two RBIs apiece.
Freshman Paul Piatelli led the Saints at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance and drove in three of the four Saint runs. Ryan Duff was 2-for-3 and Tim Harris and Jeff Kott had the other Saint hits.
Both teams had seven hits. Cardinals pitching gave up no extra-base hits.
