Plattsburgh Sweeps Old Westbury in First Games as Nationally Ranked Team

Runs Winning Streak to 17 Games

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Nationally ranked Plattsburgh State (No. 26 ABCA/"RV" D3Baseball.com) swept a non-conference doubleheader at SUNY Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon, 5-4 and 3-1, at Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. The Cardinals increase their school-record win streak to 17 games to improve to 17-1, while the host Panthers fall to 9-11.

In Game One, the Cardinals scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to erase a 4-3 deficit and earn the come-from-behind victory. Danny Roeser tripled home the go-ahead run and Tory Bouyea followed with a left-field single to bring in Roeser with an insurance run.

Dan Tracy (5-0) picked up the win in relief, working two scoreless innings and allowing two hits.

Trailing 2-0 in the seventh, Old Westbury scored three times on a double and two singles to take its first lead of the day. The teams traded runs in the next frame to set up the ninth.

Bouyea and Pat Shaughnessy led the Cardinals with two hits each. Plattsburgh outhit Old Westbury 9-8, and its offense could have scored more runs if it weren't for 10 runners left on base.

In the nightcap, the Cardinals provided all the offense with three unearned runs after two outs in the first inning.  Anthony Presto, who had two of Plattsburgh's four hits, led off the game with a double down the right-field line.  Three batters later, Donny Coolidge delivered a single to center field to plate Presto, and he eventually came around to score on a drop flyball by the right fielder. Shaughnessy later scored on a passed ball.

Tracy (6-0) pitched a complete game to notch his second win on the day. The sophomore scattered four hits, walked one and surrendered a harmless run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly.
