ONEONTA, N.Y. – The top of the order of Tory Bouyea and Josh Colligan helped set the tone for a Plattsburgh State 3-2 win in the second game of a State University of New York Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader at Oneonta on Sunday. The Cardinals (No. 18 ABCA, No. 23 D3Baseball.com/NCBWA) lost their conference road opener at the Red Dragons (16-6 overall, 2-3 SUNYAC) took the first game, 10-2. Plattsburgh (2-2 in the conference) reached 20 wins faster--in 24 games--than any other Cardinals squad in school history.
Bouyea and Colligan, along with No. 9 hitter Anthony Presto, had two hits apiece as Plattsburgh had 10 in Game 2.
The Cardinals scored all three of its runs in the top of the first inning with the key hit coming on a single to center field by Donny Coolidge that drove in a pair of runs.
Plattsburgh's Tyler Greene went the distance striking out eight batters to move to 4-0 on the season.
Oneonta scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but couldn't rally in the bottom of the ninth. Dan Randall hit his team-leading seventh home run to lead off the fourth inning while Kevin Knack hit a two-out single in the fifth inning to drive in Mike DeCarr.
In the opener, Dave Filak struck out 10 batters in six innings of work in leading the Red Dragons to the eight-run win. Filak would get all the runs he would need in the bottom of the second inning as the Red Dragons scored four runs in the frame which was capped by a two-run blast by Carmine Caputo.
Bouyea had two of Plattsburgh's six hits. Brandon Cross, Danny Roeser, Crockett Pack and Presto also singled for the Cardinals.
