PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team redeemed itself with a 60-48 win over Fredonia at home. Earlier in January, the Cardinals lost to their State University of New York Athletic Conference foe in Fredonia, 54-64.
The Cardinals rise to 12-7 for the season, 7-5 in the SUNYAC. Meanwhile, Fredonia drops to 7-11 overall, 5-7 in the conference.
After a back-and-forth first half, the Cardinals led 28-21. Danny Tangney and Steve Thomas sat atop the team with eight points each.
Entering the second, Plattsburgh started off strong and sank two unanswered jumpers in the first two minutes of play. The Cardinals would extend their lead to 15 (57-42) with just over three minutes left to play and would also have the last word when Errol Daniyan sank a free-throw with 1:15 still left on the clock.
Steve Thomas topped the team for the evening with 16 points, followed by Daniyan with 13, Chris Ruiz with 11 and Tangney with 10. Daniyan pulled down eight boards and Carl Munnerlyn dished out three assists.
For Fredonia, Scott Valenta sank 15 points and James Kane was second on the squad with nine. Kane also topped the Blue Devils with six rebounds and four assists.
Plattsburgh is set to take on Buffalo State tomorrow at home. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
