PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State women's hockey team clinched at least a share of the Eastern College Athletic Conference West Division regular-season crown on Tuesday night with a 5-0 victory over visiting Potsdam State at Stafford Ice Arena. The top-ranked Cardinals improve to 20-1-2 overall (15-0-1 ECAC-West) after winning their third straight game and maintaining a nation's-best 15-game unbeaten streak (13-0-2). The Bears fall to 8-12-1 and 5-9 in the conference. BOXSCORE
Senior co-captain Laurie Bowler scored her 14th goal of the season at the midpoint of the first period, and the Cardinals never looked back. With 4 minutes and 12 seconds left, Mackenzie Lee, Alyssa Belliveau and Kate Fairfield tallied goals during a 2:26 span to seal the program's seventh consecutive 20-win campaign. A freshman defenseman, it was Belliveau's first career goal in a red and white uniform.
With two conference games remaining, Plattsburgh leads Elmira in the ECAC West race with 31 points to 27. The Cardinals, who have finished in first place in six of the last seven years, will host the ECAC West Tournament semifinals and finals in 2-1/2 weeks by virtue of their season-series sweep of the Soaring Eagles.
A pregame ceremony was held to honor the senior class of Bowler, Stephanie Moberg (1 assist) and Kayla McDougall (4 shots), who were making their final home appearance in a regular season game in a Plattsburgh uniform.
Steph Moon capped the scoring in the third period on assists by Megan DiJulio and Bowler. All three players--plus Kristen Bond who had two assists--enjoyed a two-point night.
Plattsburgh held a commanding 71 to 18 shots on goal advantage. Hilary Hitchman had 66 saves for the Bears while reigning ECAC West Goalie of the Week Mandy Mackrell stopped all 18 shots she faced to pick up her fifth shutout on the year.
