Meade Leads Cardinals in 7-2 Win Over Potsdam

POTSDAM, N.Y.
– Brittany Meade scored two goals and assisted on two others to lead the Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team to a 7-2 win over the Potsdam Bears at Maxcy Hall.

Six Cardinals registered multiple points.  Meade netted both of her goals in the first period.  Allison Era also found the back of the net for Plattsburgh, giving the Cardinals a three goal lead after the first period.

Erica Pomponio tallied her first of the year just 34 seconds in to the second stanza.  Steph Moon and Kara Buehler also scored for Plattsburgh in the period.

Potsdam’s power-play provided all the offense for the Bears, receiving a goal from Annmarie Lewis in the second and the other from Caitlin Manahan at the 11:41 of the third.

Pomponio added her second of the night, an unassisted goal at 11:06 of the third, to round out the scoring for Plattsburgh.

The Cardinals dominated the Bears with 56-18 advantage in shots.  Sydney Aveson picked up her second win, making 16 saves.  Dawn Salvarinas and Jen Conophy split time in the Potsdam net.  Salvarinas suffered the loss and made 32 stops.  Conophy stopped 17 Plattsburgh shots.

With the win, the Cardinals improve to 7-0-0.  Plattsburgh will wrap the first semester with a weekend series against ECAC West Division foe, Elmira College.  The Cardinals will host the Soaring Eagles on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
