PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Despite a solid effort from New England College goaltender Aaron Harvey, Neumann won the shootout, 2-1, to advance to the Cardinal Classic Championship game. Both teams played to a 1-1 tie following a five-minute overtime period.
New England struck first at 14:45 of the first period on Bill McGinnis’ first goal of the season.
Neumann’s Marlon Gardner netted the game-tying goal at the 5:00 mark of the second period. William Lacasse and David Gervais were credited with the assists on the Knights’ goal.
Matt Tender made 17 stops for the Knights. Aaron Harvey recorded 32 saves for the Pilgrims.
Niko Uola was the only Pilgrims skater to score in the shootout. Marlon Gardner and William Lacasse tallied goals for Neumann in the shootout, securing the Knights’ spot in tomorrow’s championship game.
