PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.--No. 1-ranked Norwich University scored a goal in each period to cruise to a 3-0 men's hockey victory Friday over No. 14 Middlebury College in the first semifinal of the 13th annual PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout hosted by Plattsburgh State at the Stafford Ice Arena.

Travis Janke put the Cadets (3-0) on the board midway through the first period when he deflected Kyle Thomas' centering pass.

Norwich made it 2-0 at the 7:27 mark of the second period when Shane Gorman netted his first goal of the season on a feed from Pasha Kozhokin.

In the final 1 minute and 24 seconds of the game, Middlebury pulled the goaltender for an extra attacker and had a power play but was unable to score. Scott Schroeder added an empty-net goal with 17 seconds left to seal the win.

Norwich goalie Alex Dubois stopped all 27 shots he faced for the shutout while John Yanchek made 30 saves for the Panthers (0-3).
