Cardinals Remain Undefeated

Shutout Clarkson 4-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The No. 16-ranked Plattsburgh State women’s soccer team finished off a two game home stand outscoring the Clarkson Golden Knights 4-0 and improved its season record to 5-0. The Cardinals recorded 13 shots on goal and held the Golden Knights to just one shot.

Helen Giroux started the Plattsburgh scoring in the 33rd minute with a breakaway goal as she out ran Clarkson defenders. Giroux later added her third goal of the season and Plattsburgh’s third goal of the night on a penalty kick in the 76th minute of the contest.

The highlight of the night went to freshman Ashley McKenelley, who scored her first collegiate goal with a breakaway shot over Clarkson’s goalies head. Plattsburgh also scored an own goal in the 58th minute, their second in as many games.

Plattsburgh played very well defensively, while freshmen goalie Alina Greiser posted her first shutout of the season. This was Plattsburgh’s second game in a row holding their opponents to just one shot on goal.

The Cardinals begin State University of New York Athletic Conference play when they travel to Potsdam on Saturday, September 19, at 7 p.m. to take on the undefeated Bears.
