PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Castleton State only recorded one shot on goal as the nationally ranked-No. 19 Plattsburgh State women's soccer team dominated the Spartans in a 5-0 victory. The Cardinals posted 23 shots, 18 of which were on goal, while bringing their season record to 4-0. Castleton falls to 0-4-1 for the year.
Liz Radigan scored the game-winning shot for Plattsburgh half-way through the eighth minute. Radigan received a cross from Lindsey Keyser and shot the ball straight over the goalie's head into the center of the net. During the contest, Emily Riley, Renee Egan, and Leigh Metcalf also recorded goals for the Cardinals. Helen Giroux assisted on both Riley and Egan's goals and Megan Rivage recorded an assist on Metcalf's.
Castleton aided Plattsburgh by knocking in an own goal at the 67:15 mark off a corner kick by the Cardinals.
Ricci Celia picked up the lone save in goal for the Cardinals and her second shutout of the season, while Lianne Foley made her first collegiate appearance at keeper in the second half. Cady Kerin stood in goal for Castleton and allowed five goals and made 13 saves.
Plattsburgh took six corner kicks in the first half and five in the second for a total of 11 compared to the Spartans lone corner of the evening, which occurred in the second half.
The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, September 16, at 7 p.m. when the team takes on North Country foe Clarkson at home.
