PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Stephanie Moberg scored two goals, Kara Buehler had a career-best four assists and Mandy Mackrell made 19 saves to lead the Plattsburgh State women's hockey team to a 6-0 victory Saturday over visiting Neumann University in Eastern College Athletic Conference West Division action at the Stafford Ice Arena. The No. 2-ranked Cardinals improve to 6-0 both overall and in the ECAC-West, while the Knights dip to 4-3-1 and 2-3-1 in the conference. BOXSCORE
Moberg's two points give her 99 for her 87-game career in a Cardinals uniform. She has 39 goals and 60 assists. Buehler missed a school single-game record by one assist.
The teams skated to a scoreless, penalty-free first period despite Plattsburgh's huge 23-7 shots on goal advantage. But the Cardinals broke through 8 minutes and 33 seconds into the second period while on the power play when defenseman Erika Shaubel's shot from the right point deflected off a Neumann player and into the net. Laurie Bowler made it 2-0 5:23 later, and Moberg notched her first of two goals on the night with just 54 seconds left to make it 3-0.
Plattsburgh iced the game with three more goals in the third period by Moberg at the 0:49 mark, Brittany Meade at 11:02 and Teal Gove at 15:39.
Shannon Donnelly had 46 saves for the Knights, who have been outscored 10-3 in two road games. Mackrell posted her first shutout of the season and her fourth overall.
Plattsburgh outshot the Neumann for the game, 52-19. The Cardinals went 1-for-5 on the power play and killed off all three man-advantages by the Knights.
