PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Steph Moon scored the game-winning goal 1 minute and 3 seconds into overtime to lift No. 4 Plattsburgh State to a 4-3 upset Sunday of second-ranked Elmira in Eastern College Athletic Conference West Division women's hockey action at the Stafford Ice Arena. The Cardinals improve to 4-0 in both the conference and on the year while the defending conference champion Soaring Eagles drop to 3-2 and 3-2 in the ECAC West. BOXSCORE
Moon tallied her second of the season when Kristin Maton fed a centering pass from the left side to Moon, who was rushing to the front of the Elmira goal.
Plattsburgh forced the five-minute extra session when Brittany Meade scored her first goal of the season with 3:14 left in regulation, tying the game at 3-3.
Jillayne DeBus had given the Soaring Eagles a 3-2 lead with 3:43 remaining in the second period. The goal was her second on the year and it came on the power play.
The teams were knotted at 2-all after 20 minutes. Alex Bresler and Tiffany Hart scored for the Soaring Eagles, and Megan DiJulio led the Cardinals with two goals in the first.
Plattsburgh outshot Elmira 36 to 21 for the game, including a 16-5 margin in a scoreless second stanza. Samantha Maguire had 32 saves for Elmira and Mandy Mackrell stopped 18 shots for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals now lead the all-time series 15-13-3 after trailing 3-10-1 before the 2005-06 campaign.
