OSWEGO, N.Y. - The nationally-ranked No. 17 Plattsburgh State women's soccer team were shutout by State University of New York Athletic Conference foe Oswego 1-0. It is only the second time this season the Cardinals have recorded a loss and the first time they have fallen in conference play. Plattsburgh now stands at 7-2-1 overall, 2-1-1 in the SUNYAC. The Lakers rise to 5-5 for the season, 1-1 in the conference.
Oswego's Michelle Bateman scored the lone goal of the game during the 20th minute of play. Bateman received a cross from teammate Tricia Sullivan through the penalty box from the right side and placed the ball neatly into the left corner of the goal.
Ricci Celia played all 90 minutes between the pipes for Plattsburgh and racked up two saves. Offensively, Liz Radigan led the Cardinals with seven shots, four on goal. All together, the team outshot the Lakers 23-5, forcing Oswego's goalie, Christina Fergosi, to make 15 saves.
The Cardinals finish up their weekend SUNYAC road trip tomorrow when they take on the Red Dragons of Cortland at 1 p.m.
