FREDONIA, N.Y. - After taking a quick 1-0 lead five minutes into the first half, the Plattsburgh State women's soccer team looked confident entering halftime against the hosting Fredonia Blue Devils. Unfortunately, the Cardinals saw their lead become a deficit after Fredonia scored twice in the second half and took the game, 2-1.
Fredonia now ties Oneonta to lead the State University of New York Athletic Conference with a record of 6-1-0. The Blue Devils stand at 11-4-1 overall. Plattsburgh drops to 3-4-2 in the conference, 8-5-2 for the season. The game marks the final regular season SUNYAC game for the Cardinals, who will have to wait and see how the rest of the conference wraps up next week to determine if they will receive a berth to the conference tournament.
Megan Rivage scored the lone goal of the game for Plattsburgh at the 5:37 mark after receiving a pass from teammate Helen Giroux. It was Rivage's first goal of the season.Melissa Cummiskey stood all alone entering the box during the 64th minute and placed her shot into the upper corner of the goal to score Fredonia's first point of the afternoon. She was assisted on the play by Michelle Diraimo. Just over five minutes later, Reilly Condidorio knocked in her 10th goal of the season, unassisted, on a shot from outside the 18.
Lindsey Keyser and Kristie Pageau led the Cardinals with two shots apiece. Meanwhile, Lianne Foley earned her second start of the season in goal and recorded seven saves.
Condidorio topped the Blue Devils with shots, followed by Lauren Heilweil and Cummiskey who posted two each. Meaghan Meszaros picked up the in win at keeper for Fredonia, along with eight saves.
Up next for Plattsburgh, the Cardinals travel to Middlebury, Vt. to take on the Middlebury Panthers on Thursday, October 22, at 3:30 p.m.
