Shay Gestal

Shay Gestal is set to begin her first season as the assistant women’s soccer coach at Plattsburgh State in 2013.

Gestal comes to Plattsburgh possessing a varied assistant coaching resume after spending two seasons at a pair of different Vermont colleges. Her most recent posting was at St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vt., where she helped guide the Purple Knights women’s soccer squad to a 4-11-2 record in 2012.

She broke into the coaching circle during a one-year stint at Lyndon State College from September 2011 to June 2012. While with the Hornets, Gestal served as the assistant coach for the women’s basketball team during the 2011-12 campaign before working as the assistant coach for the women’s soccer program. Thanks to her guidance, the women’s soccer team finished with a record north of .500 for the only time in the past five seasons.

In addition to her skills as a coach, Gestal possesses a wealth of knowledge when it comes to physical therapy. With stints at Dee Physical Therapy and Dan Wyand PT and Associates over the past two years, Gestal has guided numerous patients through exercise rehab programs and aided in physical therapy in all areas of treatment.

A native of Albany, Vt., Gestal graduated from Gordon College in Wenham, Mass., in May of 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a concentration in pre-physical therapy. She was a member of the Fighting Scots women’s soccer team for four years and also suited up for the women’s basketball team during her senior year.
