TROY, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team battled RPI to a scoreless draw on the road Saturday afternoon, against a competitive Engineers squad.
The Cardinals entered the contest looking to snap a recent stretch of difficult results against RPI, having not defeated the Engineers since the 2022 season. RPI had also claimed victories over Plattsburgh State in each of the past two seasons, making Saturday's result a hard-fought road point for the Cardinals.
Neither team was able to break through offensively, with both defenses and goalkeepers keeping the opposing attack off the scoreboard for all 90 minutes.
RPI generated seven shots in the opening half compared to two for Plattsburgh State, but the Cardinals' defense limited the Engineers to just one shot on goal. Plattsburgh State goalkeeper Desiree DuBois (Champlain, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton Central) made one save in the opening 45 minutes to help keep the match scoreless at halftime.
The Cardinals generated more offensive pressure after the break, recording three shots in the second half while holding RPI to six. Plattsburgh State also earned six corner kicks in the second half, finishing the afternoon with a 9-3 advantage in corners.
Despite the increased pressure from both sides, neither team could find the decisive goal. Plattsburgh State finished with five shots, including two on goal, while RPI recorded 13 shots with three on target. DuBois finished with three saves, while the Engineers made two stops.
With the result, Plattsburgh State moves to 3-1-3 on the season. The Cardinals return home Tuesday night, when they host Skidmore College under the lights at 7 p.m.
