PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2026 season Wednesday afternoon, falling to Division II Saint Michael's College, 7-0, at home.
The Cardinals entered the match with a perfect 5-0 record, looking to carry their undefeated start into a challenging matchup against the Purple Knights.
Saint Michael's took control early in doubles play, earning victories at all three positions to secure the opening point. Lucy McPherson and Olivia Larsen posted a 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles over senior Jacklin Mitchell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) and senior Ava Carey (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet), while Emma Gredenhag and Ana Maria Ricaurte defeated sophomore Carmen Marino (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) and Mirabelle Nonni (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex), 6-0, at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 3 doubles, Kasey Johnson and Katie Rocha completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory over sophomore Ava Perry (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and sophomore Abigail Macdougal (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley).
The Purple Knights continued their strong play in singles action, claiming all six matches in straight sets.
McPherson defeated Mitchell, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, while Larsen recorded a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Carey at No. 2. At No. 3 singles, Gredenhag topped Marino, 6-0, 6-2.
Ricaurte earned a 6-0, 6-0 win against Perry at No. 4 singles, while Rocha defeated graduate student Marena Tubo (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal), 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5. Johnson completed the singles sweep at No. 6, defeating sophomore Paige Westfall (Brewerton, N.Y.), 6-1, 6-4.
With the loss, the Cardinals suffer their first defeat of the season, falling to 5-1, and will open conference play Saturday against Fredonia.
