PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team returned to action Sunday for day two of the Cardinal Classic, taking on Manhattanville University after opening the weekend with a 3-0 victory over MCLA. The Cardinals held a late lead against the Valiants but ultimately fell, 2-1.
After a scoreless opening 80 minutes, Plattsburgh State broke through at 80:29 when senior forward Tristan Laundree (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley) found the back of the net to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Laundree's first of the 2026 season.
Manhattanville responded just 59 seconds later, as Tiernan McLaughlin scored at 81:28 to even the match at 1-1. Koky Duarte assisted on the goal. The Valiants then completed the comeback in the 87th minute when McLaughlin scored his second goal of the afternoon, this time with an assist from Alex Rojas, putting Manhattanville ahead, 2-1.
The Cardinals generated nine shots on the afternoon, including four on goal, while Manhattanville finished with 13 shots and five shots on target. Plattsburgh State held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks, including a 5-3 edge in the opening half.
With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 2-3 on the season and will be back in action Wednesday at home when they take on Skidmore College.
