Cardinals Battle Skidmore to 1-1 Draw

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team battled Skidmore College to a 1-1 draw Wednesday evening at home, with both teams finding the back of the net in the final 10 minutes of regulation.

The Cardinals entered the contest looking to end a tough stretch against the Thoroughbreds, having not defeated Skidmore since 2016. The two sides most recently met last season, playing to a 2-2 draw in Saratoga Springs.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, both teams continued to trade opportunities in the second half. Plattsburgh finished the night with 10 shots, including three on target, while Skidmore recorded 11 shots with two on frame.

The Cardinals finally broke through in the 83rd minute. Sophomore Robbie Kapovic (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) found the back of the net at 82:23, scoring his second goal of the season off an assist from senior Michael Rodriguez (Jefferson Valley, N.Y./Lakeland) to give Plattsburgh a 1-0 advantage.

Skidmore responded quickly, however, leveling the match just 2:02 later. Keegan Maxwell scored at 84:25, with Luke Dougherty providing the assist, bringing the score to 1-1. Neither side could find a winning goal in the closing minutes as the teams settled for the draw.

With the result, the Cardinals move to 2-3-1 on the season and will be back in action Saturday on the road when they take on Union.
