PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team continued its strong start to the 2026 season on the road Saturday, earning a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Plymouth State to improve to 5-0 on the year.
The Cardinals entered the match with a perfect 4-0 record and had swept each of their first four opponents by a 7-0 score. Plattsburgh carried that momentum into doubles play, taking all three matches to claim an early 1-0 advantage in the team score.
In No. 1 doubles, senior Jacklin Mitchell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) and senior Ava Carey (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) picked up a 6-2 victory over Chloe Ahern and Lauryn Corrigan. Sophomore Mirabelle Nonni (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) and sophomore Carmen Marino (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) followed with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Sofia Orama and Sidney Huff, while sophomore Abigail Macdougal (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley) and sophomore Ava Perry (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) completed the doubles sweep with a dominant 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles over Leela Bakhshi and Anyah Fields.
Plattsburgh continued to add to its lead in singles action, with Mitchell earning a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles. Mitchell defeated Ahern, 6-3, 6-2, while Carey followed at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Corrigan.
Paige Westfall (Brewerton, N.Y.) also secured a straight-set victory for the Cardinals at No. 6 singles, defeating Fields, 6-2, 6-0.
Plymouth State battled back in the remaining three singles matches. Orama edged Marino at No. 3 singles, 7-6, 7-0, 6-4, while Huff defeated Perry at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 10-7. Senior Marena Tubo (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) fell to Bakhshi at No. 5 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.
With the doubles victories and three singles wins, the Cardinals secured the 4-3 team victory and remained undefeated through their first five matches of the season.
With the win, the Cardinals continue their unbeaten start, improving to 5-0 on the season. Plattsburgh State returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 16, when it takes on Saint Michael's College.
