DANBURY, Conn. — The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team continued its strong start to the 2026 season on the road, earning a commanding 7-0 victory over Western Connecticut State on Sunday.
The Cardinals entered the match fresh off a dominant 7-0 season-opening victory on the road against Russell Sage and carried that momentum into their second match of the season, sweeping all three doubles matches before claiming all six singles contests.
Plattsburgh opened the day by taking control in doubles play. Senior Jacklin Mitchell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) and senior Ava Carey (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) earned a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles over Eilynn Pierre and Lesley Coronel. At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Ava Perry (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and sophomore Carmen Marino (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) cruised to a 6-2 win against Elsie Sabol and Erickah Tertulien.
Sophomore Mirabelle Nonni (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) and sophomore Abigail Macdougal (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley) completed the doubles sweep at No. 3, defeating Kate Robinson and Keira Hammond, 6-1.
The Cardinals carried their momentum into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets.
Mitchell led the way at No. 1 singles, defeating Pierre, 6-0, 6-2. Carey battled past Tertulien at No. 2 singles, winning the opening set in a tiebreak before taking the second set, 6-3. Perry followed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Coronel at No. 3 singles.
At No. 4 singles, Marino posted a dominant 6-0, 6-0 shutout against Robinson, while graduate student Marena Tubo (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) matched that result at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Sabol. First-year Paige Westfall (Brewerton, N.Y.) rounded out the singles sweep at No. 6, defeating Hammond, 6-3, 6-4.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 2-0 on the season and continue their strong start to the 2026 campaign. Plattsburgh State will return home for its home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 2, when the Cardinals welcome Russell Sage for a rematch of their season-opening matchup.
