OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team entered Friday having dropped four straight contests to the Lakers, but snapped that streak with a 12-10 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over Oswego State at Laker Turf Stadium. Defensively, junior defender Fynn Whitlock (Middlebury, Vt. / Middlebury Union) turned in a standout performance with a career-high 10 ground balls and three caused turnovers. At the faceoff X, sophomore Owen O'Hara (Tappan, N.Y. / Tappan Zee) won 10 faceoffs and collected a career-high 10 ground balls. Junior goalie Cole Orehosky (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) made 15 saves in the win.

Plattsburgh held advantages in ground balls (48-40) and faceoffs (13-11), while Oswego led in shots, 48-41. Both teams scored two extra-man goals, with the Cardinals converting on two of five opportunities and the Lakers two of seven. On clears, Plattsburgh went 16-for-30, while Oswego was 18-for-21.

Oswego struck first at the 14:38 mark before the Cardinals responded with a goal from Tim Keenan (Poughquag, N.Y. / Arlington) at 10:26 to even the score at 1-1. The Lakers answered with three straight goals to take a 4-1 lead with 4:56 remaining, but Ruland stopped the run with a goal at 2:13 to cut the deficit to 4-2 heading into the second quarter.

The Lakers pushed their lead to 5-2 with a man-up goal, but Plattsburgh answered with three consecutive tallies, including two from Gipe, to tie the game at 5-5 with 11:05 to play. The teams traded goals to remain tied at 6-6, but the Lakers struck again late to take a 7-6 advantage into halftime.

Plattsburgh didn't score a goal in the third quarter until 4:38 after Oswego extended their lead to 9-6 but three consecutive goals led by Ruland with two sent the game into the final quarter tied at 9-9.

The Cardinals took their first lead of the game when Steven Fenner (Pequannock, N.J. / Pequannock) put one in the back of the net at 11:23 to make the score 10-9. Oswego later tied it at 10-10, but Plattsburgh responded with a goal minutes later from Ruland to regain an 11-10 lead. With only a one-goal lead, the Cardinals cushioned their lead late with another tally from Ruland to secure a 12-10 win.
