POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team came in today on a four-game winning streak and undefeated in conference play, but fell 14-6 to Potsdam in a road State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest at Maxcy Turf Field on Wednesday evening. Junior attacker

For the Bears, Rowisonkies Barnes led all players in points with five on three goals and two assists, and right behind him was Billy Kozloski with four points on three goals and an assist. At the faceoff X, Drew Costello won a game-high 18 faceoffs to go with a game-high 15 ground balls. Saka Thompson earned the win in goal with 10 saves.
Potsdam controlled shots, 58-23, ground balls, 55-27, and faceoffs, 18-5. Both teams had four extra-man opportunities, but Plattsburgh went scoreless, while the Bears were 4-for-4. The Cardinals only finished 14-for-26 on clears compared to Potsdam's 22-for-26.
The Cardinals struck first as Urso powered past his defender before ducking under another for the opening goal. Potsdam responded at 8:21, but Urso answered with another goal to give Plattsburgh a 2-1 lead with 7:29 remaining in the first quarter.
Despite Plattsburgh's early momentum, Potsdam went on a seven-goal run, opening up an 8-2 lead with 7:47 left in the second quarter. Urso then scored his third consecutive goal to make it 8-3, and Ruland followed with a diving shot to bring the Cardinals within 8-4 with 3:07 remaining in the half. However, Potsdam responded with back-to-back goals to push its lead to 10-4 heading into halftime.
Out of the break, Plattsburgh's offense struck twice in succession, with goals from Ruland and Fenner cutting the deficit to 10-6 with 11:34 remaining in the third quarter.
However, the Cardinals were held scoreless the rest of the way as Potsdam added four straight goals, and the Cardinals ultimately fell 14-6.
With the loss, Plattsburgh State falls to 7-3 (2-1 SUNYAC) and will return to action on Saturday, Apr. 11, hosting Morrisville for a 3 p.m. opening faceoff. The Cardinals will honor six seniors following the contest as part of Senior Day.
