Women’s Lacrosse Drops SUNYAC Road Contest at Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team traveled to Fredonia on Saturday afternoon, looking to get back in the win column, but fell 16-5 to the Blue Devils in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action. Junior attacker Ellie Macdonald (Burlington, Vt. / Burlington) led the Cardinals with three goals for three points.

Senior attacker Cynthia Barnosky (Shirley, N.Y. / William Floyd) added a goal and an assist for two points, while sophomore attacker Ashley O'Hara (Chittenango, N.Y. / The Hill School) scored once and controlled a team-high five draw controls. Junior midfielder Abby Guasconi (Ogdensburg, N.Y. / Ogdensburg Free Academy) recorded an assist, and first-year goalie Aimee Lieman (Fair Lawn, N.J. / Fair Lawn) made nine saves in net.

For the Blue Devils, Mieley Baran led all players with a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists, while Katie O'Brien followed with five goals. Leah Kunisch controlled five draws, and Jessica Kowalski made three saves in the win for Fredonia.

Fredonia held advantages in shots, 32–14, and draw controls, 14-9, while narrowly edging Plattsburgh in ground balls, 14-13. The Cardinals went 12-for-13 on clear attempts, compared to Fredonia's 16-for-18, and finished 1-for-2 on free-position shots, while the Blue Devils went 3-for-4.

The first quarter remained scoreless until the 7:53 mark when Fredonia broke through with an unassisted goal. Plattsburgh answered at 5:49, as O'Hara netted an unassisted tally to even the score at 1-1. The Blue Devils responded with back-to-back goals to regain the lead, but Macdonald stopped the run with a goal at 1:34, sending the Cardinals into the second quarter trailing 3-2.

The second quarter proved more one-sided, as the Blue Devils outscored the Cardinals 7-2. Barnosky found the back of the net at 9:53, followed by another goal from Macdonald at 6:09, but Plattsburgh trailed 10-4 going into halftime.

Out of the break, the Cardinals' defense limited the Blue Devils to just one goal, but the offense managed only one of its own, sending Plattsburgh into the final quarter trailing 11-5.

Despite the stronger defensive effort in the third, Fredonia pulled away in the fourth, adding five more goals while the Cardinals were unable to respond, resulting in a 16-5 final.

Plattsburgh State falls to 2-12 (0-8 SUNYAC) and will close out its 2026 season on Wednesday, Apr. 22, traveling to Oneonta for a 4 p.m. opening draw.
