PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State softball team continued conference play with a doubleheader against Oneonta and came away with a sweep, taking both contests by identical 4–3 scores.
In game One, the Cardinals used a late comeback to erase an early deficit. Oneonta jumped ahead in the fourth inning, scoring three runs on a two-run single and an RBI double to take a 3–0 lead.
Plattsburgh answered in the bottom of the fourth, getting on the board with an RBI single from Maya Weinerman (East Northport, N.Y./Elwood John Glenn) that scored Sara Isaacs (Malta, N.Y./Shenendehowa). The Cardinals completed their rally in the fifth inning. Isaacs drove in Jaylyn Linderman (Lockport, N.Y./Starpoint) with a single to cut the deficit to one before Weinerman delivered the go-ahead hit, a two-run single up the middle that plated Isaacs and Meghan Stork (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) to give Plattsburgh a 4–3 advantage.
The Cardinals held Oneonta scoreless over the final two innings to secure the win.
In game two, Plattsburgh struck early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Gwen Noll (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) came home on a wild pitch to open the scoring, followed by RBI singles from Isaacs and Weinerman to give the Cardinals a 3–0 lead.
Oneonta chipped away, scoring once in the third inning and adding two more in the fifth to tie the game at 3–3.
Plattsburgh responded in the sixth inning with the decisive run. Noll delivered an RBI single to left field, scoring Jordin Radley (Chatham, N.Y./Chatham Central) and putting the Cardinals back in front, 4–3.
The Cardinals once again held strong defensively to close out the game and complete the sweep.
With the sweep, Plattsburgh improves to 12–15 overall and 6–6 in conference play. The Cardinals will return to action Monday for a nonconference home doubleheader against Clarkson.
