PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team dropped its Senior Day matchup to Oswego State on Saturday afternoon, falling 16-1 to the Lakers in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action at the Field House Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. Prior to the start of the contest, the Cardinals honored six seniors:
Taya Balfour (Moorestown, N.J. / Moorestown),
Cynthia Barnosky (Shirley, N.Y. / William Floyd),
Lexi Carfi (Syracuse, N.Y. / Liverpool),
Erica Dickinson (Yaphank, N.Y. / Bellport),
Anna Myers (Saugerties, N.Y. / Saugerties), and
Ava Parsons (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal).
Junior attacker
Ellie Macdonald (Burlington, Vt. / Burlington) recorded the Cardinals' lone goal of the game. Defensively, first-year
Rien Letters (Rochester, N.Y. / Churchville-Chili) collected four ground balls, while Carfi added two caused turnovers and a ground ball. In net, first-year goalie
Aimee Lieman (Fair Lawn, N.J. / Fair Lawn) turned in a strong performance with a career-high 14 saves.
For the Lakers, Alexis Hill led all players with eight points on four goals and four assists while adding a game-high five draw controls. Cassidy Croce followed with four goals, and Alana Iacovissi earned the win in goal for Oswego.
Plattsburgh converted one of four free-position opportunities and continued to battle throughout, while Oswego finished with advantages in shots (40-6), ground balls (28-14), and draw controls (12-7) and converted three of eight free-position chances. The Cardinals went 5-for-16 on clears, with the Lakers at 12-for-15.
Oswego opened with a five-goal run before Plattsburgh responded, as Macdonald converted a free-position opportunity to get the Cardinals on the board at 2:50. The goal provided a late spark, sending Plattsburgh into the second quarter trailing 5-1.
The Cardinals continued to battle in the second, with Lieman making eight saves in the quarter, but entered halftime trailing 9-1.
Plattsburgh limited opportunities in the final quarter, but Oswego continued to extend its lead in the second half as the Cardinals fell 16-1.
With the loss, Plattsburgh State drops to 2-10 (0-6 SUNYAC) and will return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 15, traveling to New Paltz for a 4 p.m. opening draw.
