Aimee Lieman (Fair Lawn, N.J. / Fair Lawn) made a career-high 12 saves in the loss.
For the Red Dragons, Emma Dempsey led all players with six points on five goals and an assist, followed by Sydney Elizalde with five points on two goals and three assists. Rachel Rempe recorded a game-high six draw controls, while Trinity Parks earned the win in net with 45 minutes of action.
Cortland held a 41-7 advantage in shots and a 24-13 edge in ground balls. The Cardinals competed on the draw, finishing with seven compared to Cortland's 14. Both teams scored twice on free-position opportunities, with Plattsburgh going 2-for-4 and Cortland 2-for-5. On clears, the Cardinals went 6-for-19, while the Red Dragons finished 12-for-17.
The Red Dragons controlled play in the first half, scoring 10 straight goals before Plattsburgh got on the board. Cortland scored seven goals in the first quarter, but the Cardinals' defense tightened up in the second, holding the Red Dragons to nine shots and just three goals.
Plattsburgh broke through late in the second quarter as Barnosky tracked down her own rebound and fed Terry inside for the finish, cutting the deficit to 10-1 heading into the break.
Cortland continued to build on its lead in the second half, holding Plattsburgh scoreless in the third quarter before the Cardinals added the final two goals of the game.
In the fourth quarter, Barnosky converted on a free-position shot at 4:24, and Balfour added her first goal of the season at the 0:53 mark to make the final score 17-3.
With the loss, Plattsburgh State falls to 1-7 (0-3 SUNYAC) and will return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 31, traveling to Vermont State University (VTSU) Castleton for its final non-conference game of the season.
