Puc’s OT Power-Play Winner Lifts Cardinals Past Buffalo State

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team returned to SUNYAC action Friday night on the road and picked up a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Buffalo State. The Cardinals continued their strong run, winning their ninth game in the last 10 outings after coming off a thrilling come-from-behind overtime victory earlier in the week against No. 4 Middlebury.

Plattsburgh got on the board first in the opening period when sophomore Seoyoung Yoo (Yongin, Republic of Korea) capitalized at 13:26 of the first on an assist from senior Taya Balfour (Moorestown, N.J.), giving the Cardinals an early 1–0 edge. The Bengals answered early in the second period with a power-play goal by Sequoia Recollet-Nebenionquit to knot the game at 1–1 and set the stage for a tense finish.

The go-ahead score came in overtime as first-year Zoe Puc (West Palm Beach, Fla.) buried a power-play winner at 2:26 of the extra session off a feed from senior Emily Kasprzak (Niagara, N.Y.), sending Plattsburgh State home with the SUNYAC victory.

Sophomore goaltender Maddy Stetson (Wasilla, Alaska) made 23 saves in net, turning aside numerous Buffalo State chances throughout regulation before the extra-session clincher. The win marked the second meeting between the two squads this season, with Plattsburgh having secured a 1–0 victory in their earlier matchup.

With the win, the Cardinals improve to 14–6 overall and 8–1 in SUNYAC play. Plattsburgh State will be back in action tomorrow at 4 p.m. as they continue conference competition on the road against William Smith.
