Cardinals Shut Out Buffalo State to Extend Win Streak in SUNYAC Play

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team returned home Friday night and continued its SUNYAC momentum with a 3–0 victory over Buffalo State at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. The Cardinals built on a recent two-game win streak that included triumphs over Cortland and Morrisville.

Plattsburgh opened the scoring in the first period when first-year Felix-Antoine Parenteau (St-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Quebec) struck on the power play at 14:38, assisted by sophomore Quinn Tavares (Mississauga, Ontario) and senior Lonan Bulger (Yellowknife, Northwest Territories), to give the Cardinals an early 1–0 edge. Just over two minutes later, junior Patrick Cole (Lancaster, N.Y.) extended the lead with a goal at 16:30, putting Plattsburgh State ahead 2–0 heading into the second period.

Late in the third, senior Riley Sutherland (Burlington, Ontario) capped the scoring with a goal at 15:48, creating a 3–0 advantage and sealing the win for the Cardinals. Aaron Catron (Middletown, Del.) and Jaden Ward (East Aurora, N.Y.) assisted on the third goal, helping Plattsburgh pad the lead in front of a packed home crowd.

In net, first-year goaltender Beau Lane (Pembroke, Mass.) turned aside 32 shots to earn the shutout, making several key stops in the second period to maintain the Cardinals' lead.

In their previous meeting earlier this season, the Cardinals pulled off a thrilling 4–3 overtime victory over Buffalo State. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 11–10 overall and 7–7 in SUNYAC play. Plattsburgh State will be back in action tomorrow at 4 p.m. as they host Fredonia in another conference matchup at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.
