Cardinals Earn Key SUNYAC Road Win at Potsdam, 5–3

POTSDAM, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State Cardinals hit the road for their final weekend of regular-season SUNYAC play Friday night, bouncing back from a tough home loss to Skidmore with a hard-fought 5–3 win at Potsdam.

In a crucial matchup for SUNYAC playoff seeding, Plattsburgh received contributions from throughout the lineup to build momentum heading into the final game of the regular season.

Plattsburgh struck first at 9:08 of the opening period when senior Jake Sacratini (Montreal, Que.) scored on the power play, assisted by seniors Colin Callanan (Stony Point, N.Y.) and Spencer Bellina (Medina, Ohio), to make it 1–0. Just six minutes later, junior forward Patrick Cole (Lancaster, N.Y.) extended the Cardinals' lead to 2–0 with helpers from senior Lonan Bulger (Yellowknife, N.W.T.) and sophomore Shane Bondy (Sharon, Ont.). Potsdam responded late in the first period with two quick goals by Garrett McCabe and Owen Watson to knot the score at 2–2 after one.

The Cardinals regained the lead in the second period when first-year Gabriel Filion (Montreal, Que.)scored at 10:42, set up by sophomore Quinn Tavares (Mississauga, Ontario) and Bellina, making it 3–2. Plattsburgh pushed the advantage further in the third with tallies from first-year Felix-Antoine Parenteau (St-Augustin-de-Desmaures, Que.) at 10:47 and a second goal from Cole at 12:28 to put the Cardinals up 5–2. Potsdam added a late goal by Jakub Hall, but the deficit proved too large as Plattsburgh held on for the 5–3 win.

In net, senior goaltender Brady Spry (Belleville, Ontario) earned the win, turning aside 22 shots. With the victory, the Cardinals improve to 13–11 overall and 9–8 in SUNYAC play. Plattsburgh will be back in action on the road tomorrow against the Canton Kangaroos in the team's final regular-season contest.
