Northfield, Vt. — The Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team snapped its four-game skid with a convincing 4–0 victory over SUNY Oswego State in a nonconference matchup at the Norwich East–West Hockey Classic on Monday afternoon.
Plattsburgh entered the contest with a 49–3–2 all-time record against Oswego and seeking its 50th win in the all-time series, and the Cardinals lived up to expectations with a complete effort on both ends of the ice.
First-year Zoe Puc (West Palm Beach, Fla.) led the offensive attack, recording the first hat trick and multi-goal game of her career with three goals, including the eventual game-winner just 2:26 into the first period. Puc added a power-play goal in the second period before capping the scoring with an insurance tally in the third. Molly Riggi (Farmingdale, N.J.) added a goal and two assists, highlighting a balanced offensive effort as the Cardinals jumped out early and never looked back.
Sophomore goaltender Maddy Stetson (Wasilla, Alaska) made the most of her opportunity in net, earning the shutout in just her second career start after stopping all 22 shots she faced. The Plattsburgh defense limited Oswego to a handful of quality chances and kept the Lakers off the scoreboard throughout the contest.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 6–5 on the season and will return to action on Jan. 13, traveling to Trinity for a 7 p.m. road matchup.
