HARTFORD, CONN. — The Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team continued its road swing Tuesday night with a 4–1 victory over Trinity College, marking the Cardinals' first meeting with the Bantams in seven seasons.
Plattsburgh got on the board early with a power-play goal just 3:13 into the first period. Senior Taya Balfour (Moorestown, N.J.) tallied the strike with an assist from first-year Zoe Puc (West Palm Beach, Fla.), giving the Cardinals an early 1–0 lead. Trinity responded later in the frame, knotting the game at 1–1 before the opening period concluded.
In the second period, senior Su-An Cho (Madison, Ala.) put Plattsburgh back in front just minutes into the frame, igniting Cardinal momentum heading into the final period. The third period saw the Cardinals extend their advantage with two more tallies. First-year Bailey MacKellar (Hamburg, N.Y.) struck just over a minute into the period, and sophomore Kate Conlon (New Hudson, Mich.) capped the scoring with a late goal to secure the 4–1 win.
Between the pipes, sophomore Maddy Stetson (Wasilla, Alaska) earned the victory for Plattsburgh, stopping 10 shots in her second straight start, as the netminder continued to provide a spark after being inserted into the lineup. Trinity's Madeline Carter turned aside 28 Cardinal shots in the loss.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 7–5 and will be back in action Friday at 3 p.m. as they return home to take on Suffolk University at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.
