POTSDAM, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State Cardinals earned a convincing 5–0 victory over the Potsdam Bears on Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC road action, improving their undefeated all-time record against Potsdam to 45–0. The Cardinals entered the contest riding the momentum of a 3–1 win over the Bears on Friday and continued their strong stretch with a complete team effort away from home.
Plattsburgh wasted little time jumping on the board, striking early in the first period. Junior Sydnee Francis (Canton, N.Y.) netted the game's opening goal just over two minutes into the contest, assisted by sophomore Kate Conlon (New Hudson, Mich.), to set the tone for the afternoon. Just over three minutes later, sophomore Tessa Morris (Grand Island, N.Y.) extended the lead with a goal assisted by Francis and senior Su-An Cho (Madison, Ala.). First-year Zoe Puc (West Palm Beach, Fla.) capped off the first-period scoring with a tally in the closing seconds, pushing the Cardinals to a 3–0 advantage after 20 minutes.
The second period saw Plattsburgh continue its offensive pressure. Puc scored her second goal of the game with assists from senior Molly Riggi (Farmingdale, N.J.) and first-year Riley Keller (Cuba, N.Y.), and sophomore Brooke Terry (Massena, N.Y.) added the final goal of the contest, assisted by first-year Lauren Farris (Northville, Mich.) and senior Emily Kasprzak (Niagara, N.Y.), giving Plattsburgh a 5–0 cushion it carried into the third.
On the defensive side, first-year netminder Maddy Stetson (Wasilla, Alaska) turned in a clean sheet, stopping all 14 shots she faced to record the shutout. The road sweep keeps Plattsburgh atop the SUNYAC standings, as the win improves the Cardinals to 12–6 overall and 7–1 in conference play. Plattsburgh will return home for a midweek non-conference matchup Tuesday against No. 3 Middlebury at 7 p.m. at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena.
