Plattsburgh Rolls Past Morrisville with 6–0 Victory

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State Cardinals men's ice hockey team stayed on the road and continued SUNYAC play Saturday night, earning a dominant 6–0 victory over the Morrisville Mustangs. Coming off a dramatic, come-from-behind 3–2 thriller at Cortland in their previous game, the Cardinals looked to build on that momentum and avenge an earlier-season loss to the Mustangs.

Plattsburgh got on the board first in the opening period when first-year Gabriel Filion (Montreal, Quebec) scored with just three minutes remaining, finishing off a play set up by senior Jake Sacratini (Montreal, Quebec) and sophomore Quinn Tavares (Mississauga, Ontario) to make it 1–0. Just under two minutes later, first-year Alexandro Moliner (Delson, Quebec) extended the lead to 2–0 with a finish assisted by senior captain Spencer Bellina (Medina, Ohio). From there, the Cardinals' offense continued to apply pressure and never looked back.

In the second frame, Bellina struck at 13:09, again with help from Tavares, before Sacratini added a fourth goal at 17:51 to give Plattsburgh a commanding 4–0 lead through 40 minutes. The Cardinals' offense carried over into the third period as senior Lonan Bulger (Yellowknife, Northwest Territories) and Tavares closed out the scoring with late goals to secure the 6–0 shutout.

First-year Beau Lane (Pembroke, Mass.) stood tall in net for Plattsburgh, stopping all 21 shots faced to record the shutout and preserve the team's momentum on the road. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 10–10 overall and 6–7 in SUNYAC play. Plattsburgh will return home Friday night to host Buffalo State at 7 p.m. as they look to continue their climb in the conference standings.
