Plattsburgh Bounces Back With 3–1 SUNYAC Win Over Potsdam

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team returned to Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena on Friday as SUNYAC play resumed, looking to rebound from a 2–1 loss against Oswego and remain atop the conference standings.

Plattsburgh wasted little time asserting control, striking early in the first period. First-year Bailey MacKellar (Hamburg, N.Y.) opened the scoring with under four minutes remaining in the period to give the Cardinals a 1–0 lead. Just over two minutes later, senior Taya Balfour (Moorestown, N.J.) found the back of the net, assisted by senior Molly Riggi (Farmingdale, N.J.) and first-year Zoe Puc (West Palm Beach, Fla.), to extend the advantage to 2–0.

Despite a scoreless second period, Plattsburgh continued generating offense and keeping pressure on the Bears. Potsdam got on the board early in the third, as Megan Mills capitalized 40 seconds into the period to cut the lead to 2–1. The Cardinals answered later in the frame when sophomore Brooke Terry (Massena, N.Y.) scored on assists from MacKellar and senior Emily Kasprzak (Niagara Falls, N.Y.), restoring the two-goal cushion and securing the 3–1 victory.

Between the pipes, Chloe Lewis (Monson, Mass.) turned in a steady performance for Plattsburgh, stopping 15 shots to earn the win, while Potsdam goaltender Magalie Parent made 31 saves in the loss. With the win, the Cardinals improved to 11–6 overall and 6–1 in SUNYAC play. The victory also extended Plattsburgh's perfect all-time record against Potsdam, as the Cardinals have now never lost to the Bears, holding a 44–0 mark in the series.

Plattsburgh will be back in action tomorrow on the road for a rematch against Potsdam, with puck drop slated for 3 p.m.
